Pacman allegedly strikes lawyer at strip club

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A woman is seeking an arrest warrant against suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, claiming he punched her at an Atlanta strip club.

Fulton County Magistrate Court officials told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Wanda S. Jackson asked for the warrant after a Jan. 3 altercation at the Body Tap Strip Club.

Jackson, an attorney, says in her filing that she was in the club's office when an angry Jones accused managers of stealing his money and bracelet.

"I was sitting in the office and he lunged at me numerous times in an effort to do grave bodily harm," Jackson wrote in the warrant application filed Jan. 7. "Veronica Jones, an owner, went into the hall to deal with a member of his entourage. I followed to gawk. He was in the hall, surprisingly reached over or around a security guard and sucker punched me in my left eye."
Jackson told police the next day she was at the club because she was handling a divorce case that involved Adam Jones. No one could be reached Tuesday afternoon at the club's listed phone number.

"Mr. Jones, according to Ms. Jackson, was at the Body Tap Club and she and Mr. Jones got into an argument at the club and Mr. Jones struck Ms. Jackson in the left eye, causing a bruise around her left eye," according to the police report.

Jackson did not immediately return a phone message requesting comment. Jones' attorney Manny Arora said no warrant has been issued against his client.

Norris Arnold, a court support manager for Fulton County, said a magistrate judge will review Jackson's application on Feb. 8 to determine whether the warrant will be filed.

Last month, Jones pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge related to a strip club shooting in Las Vegas that left club manager Tommy Urbanski paralyzed.

Also Tuesday night, the NFL filed a motion in Nevada to be dismissed from a lawsuit by Urbanski.

A judge already dismissed the Titans from the suit last Wednesday, saying the team couldn't be responsible for Jones' actions at the Minxx Gentleman's Club last Feb. 19.

The lawsuit filed Oct. 19 sought unspecified damages from Jones, the NFL, the Titans and the owners of Harlem Knights, a Houston strip club that rented the Las Vegas club for the party the night of the shooting, during NBA All-Star weekend.

A hearing for the NFL's motion is scheduled for Feb. 20 in Clark County District Court.
Clark County District Attorney David Roger said the new accusations could affect his criminal case against Jones. With his plea, Jones agreed to a year probation, random drug testing, community service and anger management classes.

"We have negotiated with Mr. Jones in exchange for his assistance in an attempted murder case. This doesn't help his case if he is found guilty," Roger told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Jones has been arrested six times since being drafted sixth overall in 2005, including two arrests in Georgia in 2006 that the Titans did not learn about until 2007. Jones was suspended for the 2007 season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in April.

"As we have said throughout his suspension, we will not comment on Adam Jones until he is reinstated by the commissioner," the Titans said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Jones was allowed to go to the Titans' headquarters once their season ended with an AFC wild-card loss in San Diego on Jan. 6. But the NFL plans to review his status following the Pro Bowl.

Man Struck By 3 Cars; 2 Drivers Flee

ANNANDALE, Va. -- Police are asking the public's help identifying a man struck by three motorists-- two of them hit-and-run drivers -- on Little River Turnpike early Sunday.

The man was attempting to cross the road north to south about 1:50 a.m. when he was hit by a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, police said.

The driver, a 28-year-old Silver Spring man, stopped and called police.

As the victim lay in the roadway, he was struck by two more cars, and those drivers did not stop, according to police. One was a cream or silver Toyota Camry. There is no description of the second car.

The victim was in critical condition Sunday at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Police have not been able to identify him. They say he is Hispanic, in his 30s and wore a dark jacket.

Police are asking the public's help in identifying the victim and the drivers of the two cars who left the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS or Fairfax police at 703-691-2131.

WARSAW (Reuters) - A Polish man got the shock of his life when he visited a brothel and spotted his wife among the establishment's employees. Polish tabloid Super Express said the woman had been making some extra money on the side while telling her husband she worked at a store in a nearby town.

"I was dumfounded. I thought I was dreaming," the husband told the newspaper Wednesday.

The couple, married for 14 years, are now divorcing, the newspaper reported.

Police Impersonator Arrested After Pulling Over Off-Duty Officer

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. -- Police in Fairfax County said a teenager arrested for impersonating a police officer may have been involved in similar impersonations across the region.

Steven Rivas, a 19-year-old criminal justice student, was arrested Saturday and accused of impersonating a police officer and pulling over an off-duty Fairfax County officer on her way home from work, investigators said. Rivas, of Annandale, flipped on blue lights on a 2004 gold Ford Explorer at about 1 a.m. Saturday and signaled for the officer to stop on the northbound ramp from Gallows Road to the Beltway, police said.

Investigators said Rivas identified himself as an undercover police officer.
When the real officer identified herself and asked to see Rivas' badge and credentials, he drove away with blue and white lights still flashing, police said.

The real officer took down the vehicle's license plate number and gave it to police, who arrested Rivas at his Annandale home.

Jose Rivas, Steven Rivas' father, said his son is in "big trouble." Rivas was driving his father's vehicle. His father said he asked his son many times where he got the flashing lights he used in the stop.

"It surprised me, too, because I'm trying to keep him on the right way, but he won't listen," Jose Rivas said.

Police said Rivas was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with impersonating a police officer, reckless driving, use of unauthorized lights and abduction.
Police said they are investigating whether Rivas was involved in similar incidents. Anyone with information about the case should call Fairfax County police.

Police warn drivers to use caution when they are stopped by police. Police said drivers should turn on their vehicle's emergency flashers, drive to the nearest well-lit, populated area before stopping and ask for the officer's official identification if it seems questionable.

Drivers can also call 911 and ask the call taker to verify the traffic stop, police said.

Man who hid knives in pants stabs self

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A man who hid hunting knives in his pants to try to steal them from a western Michigan store tripped while fleeing and stabbed himself in the abdomen, police say.

The suspect was hospitalized after Monday night's attempted theft from a Meijer Inc. superstore in Grand Rapids and is expected to face a misdemeanor shoplifting charge, police say.

The wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, The Grand Rapids Press reported.
The man had put about $300 worth of hunting knives in his waistband, police told WZZM-TV. Police say he tried to leave the store, but Meijer employees confronted him and a scuffle followed.

The man then fell and was stabbed by the knives he had hidden in his clothing, police said. They said it happened about 5:40 p.m.

"The man was taken to the hospital," said Meijer spokesman Frank Giuliano. "We are cooperating with the investigation by police."

Police said the suspect has a record of retail fraud.

"I saw a man laying down on the mat by the carts, a knife by him with blood on the full blade of the knife," shopper Heather Dodd told WOOD-TV. "It was not a dull kitchen knife or a sharp butcher's knife, it was somewhere in between.

"Someone was holding him down so I just walked around him, grabbed my cart, made sure everything was OK and got out of the way."

NEW YORK - Two men wheeled a dead man through the streets in an office chair to a check-cashing store and tried to cash his Social Security check before being arrested on fraud charges, police said.

David J. Dalaia and James O'Hare pushed Virgilio Cintron's body from the Manhattan apartment that O'Hare and Cintron shared to Pay-O-Matic, about a block away, spokesman Paul Browne said witnesses told police.

"The witnesses saw the two pushing the chair with Cintron flopping from side to side and the two individuals propping him up and keeping him from flopping from side to side," Browne said.

The men left Cintron's body outside the store, went inside and tried to cash his $355 check, Browne said. The store's clerk, who knew Cintron, asked the men where he was, and O'Hare told the clerk they would go and get him, Browne said.

A police detective who was having lunch at a restaurant next to the check-cashing store noticed a crowd forming around Cintron's body, and "it's immediately apparent to him that Cintron is dead," Browne said.

The detective called uniformed New York Police Department officers at a nearby precinct. Emergency medical technicians arrived as O'Hare and Dalaia were preparing to wheel Cintron's body into the check-cashing store, Browne said. Police arrested Dalaia and O'Hare there, he said.

Cintron's body was taken to a hospital morgue. The medical examiner's office told police it appeared Cintron, 66, had died of natural causes within the previous 24 hours, Browne said.
"He was deceased in the apartment when he was removed by these two," Browne said.
Dalaia and O'Hare, both 65, were being held by police and faced check fraud charges, Browne said.

A call to a telephone number listed for Cintron at the apartment he shared with O'Hare went unanswered Tuesday evening. Police said they didn't have an address for Dalaia or attorney information for him or O'Hare

Roofing magnate dies in fall

BELOIT, Wisconsin (AP) -- The 91st-richest man in the United States, a roofing company billionaire, has died after falling through his home garage's roof, local authorities said Friday.

Ken Hendricks, 66, reportedly was checking the roof on his garage when he fell.

Ken Hendricks, 66, was checking on construction Thursday night on the roof at his home in the town of Rock when he fell through, Rock County Sheriff's Department Cmdr. Troy Knudson said.

Hendricks suffered massive head injuries, according to his company, ABC Supply Co.

Hendricks' wife called authorities and attempted CPR on her husband, Knudson said. Hendricks was taken first to a Beloit hospital and then transferred to Rockford Memorial Hospital in Winnebago County, Illinois.

He was pronounced dead there early Friday morning, Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia said. An autopsy was planned for Friday.

Hendricks was the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of ABC Supply, which describes itself as the nation's largest wholesale distributor of roofing. The Beloit-based company does about $3 billion in business a year.

Hendricks had a net worth of $3.5 billion in September, according to Forbes magazine. That made him the country's 91st-richest person, according to the magazine's ranking of American billionaires.

But he seemed unfazed by his wealth.

"It doesn't make any difference to me; I can't spend it," Hendricks said in an interview with Inc.com in September 2006. "I'd have to sell the company, and I'll sell the company over my dead body."

Hendricks, the son of a Janesville roofer, worked side-by-side with his father growing up. A high school dropout, he started his own roofing business at age 21, according to his biography on ABC Supply's Web site.

Tired of having to deal with multiple suppliers scattered around the country, he and his wife, Diane, started a national supply distribution chain in 1982.

The company celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, with 6,000 employees in 390 locations nationwide.

"This is an enormous tragedy and a great loss to the family, associates and the community," ABC Supply said in a statement.

Hendricks and his wife also owned a variety of companies through the Hendricks Holding Co. and a property development group with more than 25 million square feet of industrial and commercial real estate.

Ariz. doc in trouble over photo

PHOENIX - A surgeon faces a disciplinary hearing for snapping a photo of a patient's tattooed genitals during an operation and showing it around to other doctors.

Mayo Clinic Hospital administrators said Dr. Adam Hansen, chief resident of general surgery, admitted taking the photo with his cell phone on Dec. 11. The tattoo on strip club owner Sean Dubowik's penis reads: "Hot Rod."

Dubowik, who had undergone a gallbladder operation, said he learned of the photo Monday when the Mayo Clinic called.

"I got a strange call after my surgery from a doctor who said there was a problem. He said Hansen was on the phone and would explain," he said.

Dubowik, 27, said Hansen told him he took the picture while inserting a catheter into his penis. A member of the surgical staff made an anonymous call about the photo to The Arizona Republic on Monday.

"He told me he didn't want me to read about it in the newspaper first," Dubowik said.
Hansen wasn't available for comment Tuesday and has been placed on administrative leave. He could face a range of punishment from probation to dismissal.

"Patient privacy is a serious matter, and photographing someone in this manner without a good reason is something we will investigate down to the last detail," said Dr. Joseph Sirven, education director for Mayo Clinic Arizona, the hospital's parent organization based in Scottsdale.

Dubowik said he got the tattoo on a bet and that "it was the most horrible thing I ever went though in my life."

He said he planned to contact an attorney.

"The longer I sit here the angrier I get," he said.

Exchange brings on civics lesson

MIDDLEBURG -- A civics lesson broke out in the middle of a Snyder County Court hearing Monday.

It began when 17-year-old Brittany Selleck admitted under oath that she had been drinking alcohol at a party in Selinsgrove Sept. 28 when she was allegedly stabbed in the head and wrist by Fendi T. Thompson, 18, of 1 18th St., Selinsgrove.

The admission came out nonchalantly under cross-examination by defense attorney Stephen Becker, of Lewisburg.

President Judge Harold F. Woelfel Jr. interjected and advised the teen about her constitutional rights, specifically her right to invoke the Fifth Amendment and avoid admitting to the crime of underage drinking.

After a brief explanation, Miss Selleck said she understood, and Mr. Becker asked the same question again.

"Were you drinking that night?"

"No," she replied to some laughter in the courtroom.

Judge Woelfel again explained how to avoid incriminating herself.

"It doesn't mean you lie," he said gently.

Nodding her head and smiling broadly, Miss Selleck said, "I'm going to take the Fifth Amendment, that's what I'm going to do."

Stopped from questioning her further on the subject of her alcohol consumption, Mr. Becker asked the court to strike all of Miss Selleck's testimony.

"We need to know if she was intoxicated," he said.

District Attorney Michael Sholley objected, calling Mr. Becker's request a "grossly extreme sanction," especially since Miss Thompson is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

Continuing in his role as teacher, Judge Woelfel had some advice for Mr. Sholley.
"You could, however, offer (Miss Selleck) immunity from prosecution," he suggested.

Miss Selleck was granted immunity, and she went on to testify that she consumed about 48 ounces of beer and two shots of vodka the night of the alleged assault.

She also admitted "feeling drunk," but said she was able to recall details of the incident.
